I’m “Mitthu” known as “TikTok Parrot” on social media, I was hatched on 27 Feb 2017. You can do the math now ๐
I’m a male African Grey parrot, the grey parrot, also known as the Congo grey parrot, Congo African grey parrot or African grey parrot, is an Old World parrot in the family Psittacidae.
There are two main types of African Grey parrots: the Congo African Grey parrot (which is me) and the Timneh African Grey parrot.
I love talking a lot, I’m not only so talkative but also swear a lot. I know swearing is not a good thing but swearing doesn’t mean that I am a bad boy ๐
I recently joined TikTok, my first-ever social media platform, with the goal of seeing other people’s pets and sharing videos of mine. After watching many parrot accounts on TikTok, I realized that I am a unique parrot who talks a lot and has a vast vocabulary of words and phrases in four different languages: English, Urdu/Hindi, Pashto, and Arabic.
In just two months, many of my TikTok videos went viral, garnering 1.5 million likes and nearly 100,000 fans. I am amazed by the love and support from people who enjoy requesting words from me. I do my best to create videos based on their requests and give them credit in the videos.
Parrots like me, African grey is one of the most talented talking/ mimicking birds on the planet.
Parrots, like me, an African Grey, are among the most talented talking and mimicking birds on the planet.
My keeper adores me, takes excellent care of me, and I bring a smile to his face by singing, performing amusing actions, and even swearing occasionally. Typically, I am a very calm bird and do not swear all the time. However, when I hear a sudden noise that startles me, I begin to swear.
In the wild, African Grey parrots communicate with each other using a variety of vocalizations, body language, and visual cues. They rely on distinct calls for various purposes, such as alerting others to potential dangers, establishing their territory, and attracting mates.
These intelligent birds are also known to mimic the sounds of other species in their environment, adding to their rich vocal repertoire. Their body language, which includes postures, wing flapping, and head bobbing, further conveys their intentions and emotions to fellow African Greys, allowing them to maintain intricate social interactions within their flock.
On the other hand, African greys learn from humans through a combination of observation, socialization, and reinforcement. As highly social creatures, these parrots thrive on interactions with their human caretakers, attentively observing and imitating speech patterns, gestures, and behaviors.
Through consistent exposure to language and positive reinforcement, such as praise or treats, African Greys gradually develop an impressive vocabulary and even the capacity to understand context. This unique learning process exemplifies the deep bond between African Greys and their human companions, as well as the parrots’ remarkable cognitive abilities.
Humans, being the complex creatures that they are, often resort to profanity in moments of intense emotional distress. Parrots, on the other hand, being the imitative creatures that they are, mimic such passionate outbursts.
Consequently, it is unlikely that most individuals intentionally train their parrots to use foul language. However, once the parrots have acquired this habit, it becomes virtually impossible to “untrain” them, just as it is difficult to stop a toddler from using expletives.
Similar to humans, parrots are highly motivated to please their group, and as such, they continue to produce sounds that amuse their owners. Regrettably, some individuals are unable to regulate their emotional vocalizations in the presence of a companion parrot, thereby contributing to an unfortunate and growing tragedy.
